'The pleasure of reading'

Oh, it's high time that I post something on this blog (too)! How about a wonderful quote, in style with my current writing ambitions?

“Until then, reading was just a duty, a sort of fine one had to pay teachers and tutors without quite knowing why. I had never known the pleasure of reading, of exploring the recesses of the soul, of letting myself be carried away by imagination, beauty, and the mystery of fiction and language.”

Carlos Ruiz Zafón - The Shadow of the Wind

Doesn't everyone who writes or wants to write hope for a bit of beauty in and mystery to their words? Oh, I know, Zafón is an extremely ambitious example, even in translation (Lucia Graves is an absolute master in creating the right atmosphere, and I say that with absolutely no knowledge of the original Spanish text), but just as one must dream, one must have ambitions.

For those of you who speak (or just read) Dutch and are curious about my writing adventure, I'm obviously blogging about that too. I'm a blogaholic. You can find it HERE. (Go on, click 'here'. It's a link, you know. It'll take you places.)
